OKLAHOMA CITY (Feb. 27, 2017) – A trio of activities at the upcoming 100th Anniversary Oklahoma City International Auto Show will help benefit a local children’s cancer charity.

Revenues from the OKC Auto Show Gala, Auto Show 5K and the 18-Hole Mini-Golf Course Experience will be donated to 10 Strong, which has a mission to support and encourage families currently going through cancer treatment on the 10th floor of the OU Children’s Hospital.

“We are so incredibly blessed to be chosen as the recipients of generosity from the OKC Auto Show, especially during the 100-year celebration,” Nicole Howard of 10 Strong said. “This will allow for us to spend more time focused on helping support the kids and their families as they continue to deal with the daily issues that come with a diagnosis of cancer.”

Each of the staff members of 10 Strong is a mom whose own child spent time dealing with cancer on the 10th floor of the OU Children’s Hospital. What began in 2013 as an organized effort to bring some joy to the families in the cancer unit became an official charity in June 2015. Every Wednesday, the staff at 10 Strong visits the kids on the 10th floor. Whether it is waffle night, an ice cream social, movie night or even an Italian soda bar, Wednesdays are considered “the best day to fight cancer.”

The events helping fund the charity include the OKC Auto Show Gala, which is being held Friday, March 10th, at 6:30 p.m. The Auto Show 5K starts at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 11th. The mini-golf course will be open throughout the auto show. Additional details and registration information can be found at www.okcautoshow.org.

“It is always a great feeling to be able to help out those in need, and we really look forward to having the opportunity to help 10 Strong in their efforts to bring happiness to the kids and families on the 10th Floor of the OU Children’s Hospital,” OKC Auto Show Chairman John Holt said. “We expect the centennial celebration of the Oklahoma City International Auto Show to be one of our most popular events yet, and we are hopeful that we are able to raise a lot of money for 10 Strong.”

The 100th anniversary of the Oklahoma City International Auto Show is being held March 10-12 at Oklahoma State Fair Park in the new Bennett Event Center. Centennial Celebration of OKC Auto Show to Include Flashback to 1917

OKLAHOMA CITY (Feb. 21, 2017) – The year is 1917 and cars are relatively new to the world, having just been invented in the late 1800’s. Henry Ford invented the assembly line for mass production of cars in 1913 and the automobile industry would never be the same.
With the Oklahoma City International Auto Show celebrating its 100th anniversary March 10-12 at the new Bennett Event Center at the Oklahoma State Fair Park in Oklahoma City, those attending the event will be treated to a re-creation of the event from 1917.
“The addition of our cars showcases a nostalgic piece of American automobile history – a vivid contrast to the modern high technology of today – and common interest has fostered a special car lovers bond,” Jim Adair, past president of the Sooner Region of the Horseless Carriage Club of America, said. “Our commitment to the preservation of pre-1916 automobiles affords us the unique ability to commemorate, save and forever preserve the era and the evolution of the American automotive entrepreneurial spirit.”
Most of the vehicles are rare pieces of automobile antiquity that are routinely sequestered away in a garage for viewing by invitation only. As part of the re-creation, 44 cars from that era will be on display. Adair said this is a great opportunity for the general public to see cars that don’t often see the light of day.
“The OKC Auto Show provides our club the opportunity to educate and display collection items to the public, many of whom have never seen these incredible automobiles and have no idea how they evolved into what we drive today,” Adair said.

“As excited as we are about having the opportunity to show off the latest and greatest vehicles in this ever-growing industry, it is always enjoyable to reflect back to our history and take a look at past automobiles,” Peter Hodges, president of the Metropolitan Auto Dealers Association, said. “These vintage cars have so many memories and we embrace the chance to show them off as part of our centennial celebration.”
In addition to the vintage cars, those attending the show will be treated to advertisements and stories from the 1917 Auto Show Special Section as well as a re-creation of a 1917 dealership building façade.
